Description

The Essentials to Know About the Schecter PT Guitar

  • A PT shape inspired by the Signature Pete Townshend models (1980s), revisited in Schecter style for more bite.

  • Two Diamond SuperRock-II humbuckers: punch, clarity, and a high output level for rhythms that snap and solos that cut through.

  • Modern comfort: bolt-on maple neck, 14" / 355 mm radius, and 22 X-Jumbo frets for fast playability.

  • Stage reliability: Graph Tech XL Black Tusq nut, Grover tuners, and a fixed string-through-body bridge for solid tuning stability.

A PT Between Rock Heritage and Schecter Modernity

Developed by Schecter, the PT follows the line of Signature guitars associated with Pete Townshend in the 1980s, while retaining the spirit of classic shapes born in the 1950s. Here, the formula is "spiced up" with a decidedly modern approach: a neck designed for speed, reliable hardware, and simple, effective electronics tailored for rock.

Who Is It For, and What Styles?

This Schecter PT is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a versatile, direct, and edgy electric guitar. With its humbuckers and passive electronics, it excels in rock, hard rock, punk, and muscular blues. The push/pull tone control adds an extra palette to switch from thicker sounds to airier textures, handy for covering multiple genres with a single instrument.

The Sound

The alder body offers a very effective balance: present mids, clean lows, and clear highs, ideal for maintaining definition in a mix. The maple neck and fingerboard add attack and precision, with a crisp response from the picking hand. The Schecter Diamond SuperRock-II humbuckers deliver a powerful and articulate sound: tight rhythms, easy-to-highlight harmonics, and great clarity when rolling back the volume. The fixed string-through-body bridge promotes stability and solid sustain, perfect for held chords and singing leads.

First Tele-like. pleasantly surprised by the access to the highs. I expected worse. Superb and well finished, rather heavy. The pickups are fantastic, but even with the split, you won't get the twang of a Telecaster. The action was a bit high on arrival, (for now I haven't touched it, it's good for slide), I just adjusted the intonation. The neck is not super thin style, it's not a log either, but the satin finish is very pleasant; the color, however, leans quite strongly towards yellow and it's less happy to my taste. It sounds, it makes you want to play and that's the most important... The same with a slightly less "Classy" finish and a Bigsby and it would be paradise!
