Complete software
TrainYourEars EQ Edition is an ear training software for Mac and PC designed to develop a key skill in both home studios and professional studios: linking a sonic intention to an equalizer setting. The goal is to improve your "frequency memory" to quickly recognize what is missing, what is excessive, or what is harsh in a signal, then act precisely on the right parameters.
Whether you work in mixing (vocals, drums, guitars, synths), sound design, podcasting, or mastering, this type of training reduces the time spent turning knobs "at random." Instead, you develop a more confident, faster, and more reproducible listening skill, particularly useful when you need to make EQ decisions under time constraints.
The principle is simple and highly effective: the software exposes you to many randomly generated equalizations that you must identify. This volume of examples accelerates learning because your ear encounters a wide variety of situations close to real mixing scenarios, without routine or automation.
If your answer is incorrect, TrainYourEars EQ Edition indicates "how" and "to what extent" you were wrong. You can then listen to your attempt and the correct response, which strengthens the association between auditory sensation and technical action on the equalizer.
Version 2.0 introduces a redesigned training method: instead of guessing a setting, you make corrections while listening, immediately hearing the impact of your adjustments. This approach promotes very concrete learning, close to a mixing situation where you refine an EQ in real time.
This method was initially suggested by Bob Katz, a recognized mastering figure. It was then tested and integrated into the software to offer smoother, more musical training, more oriented towards "mixing gestures."
TrainYourEars EQ Edition features an interface described as modern, clean, and more readable, designed to maintain focus on listening. The software also includes a guided training screen to support progression, as well as an exercise designer allowing you to tailor sessions to your goals.
Finally, the software supports multiple languages, facilitating its integration into diverse learning environments, both self-taught and educational contexts.
