Aquila presents Bionylon, the world's first ecological synthetic string. These ukulele strings are made of rounded and smooth Bionylon® monofilaments – a new material discovered by Aquila engineers that also has excellent acoustic and mechanical properties. Bionylon is 63% derived from vegetable oil (castor oil); this allows for more than a 50% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere during the polymer synthesis compared to other common Nylons used for making musical strings.
