What Oberheim OB-E Is For
Oberheim OB-E is a virtual instrument designed to recreate and extend the experience of the legendary 8-Voice based on SEM modules. It targets producers, composers, and sound designers seeking wide pads, analog brass, expressive leads, evolving textures, and vintage-character sequences, while benefiting from the precision and convenience of a modern plugin. Its "eight independent voices" approach provides ideal depth and stereo width for electro, synthwave, pop, scoring, and cinematic atmospheres.
Main Features
Octaphonic Architecture and SEM Authenticity
At its core, OB-E replicates the SEM principle with two VCOs (Pulse and Sawtooth), ADS envelopes, LFO, and multi-mode filter. The difference lies in the assembly: eight SEMs triggered polyphonically, with behaviors and interactions that deliver that "huge" and organic sound. The round-robin mode (continuous rotation) ensures that each note uses a different voice to enhance movement and realism.
"Vintage" Control, Refined Detune, and Performance
Version v2 adds a Vintage knob to introduce realistic micro-musical variations, as well as a more precise Detune. Going further, OB-E includes a VCO3 per SEM that can also act as an audio-rate LFO, and extended modulation via velocity, aftertouch, polyphonic aftertouch, and MPE.
Creative Sequencer, Effects, and Drum Mode
OB-E features an 8-step analog-style sequencer, a routable stereo delay, and a reverb (including a new Matrix Reverb in v2). The Drum Mode allows triggering each SEM with a dedicated key, turning the instrument into an analog percussion machine, with 10 kit presets to get started.
