Toontrack EKX Small Upright Piano is designed to bring a compact upright piano with a distinctive timbre to your productions, perfect when you want something other than a traditional grand piano. Its sound identity, more intimate and direct, makes it an excellent choice for pop, rock, indie, alternative tracks, as well as for film scoring, vocal/piano demos, or arrangements that require a present piano without overwhelming the space.
Whether you compose from chords, patterns, or MIDI phrases, this library helps you write faster and keep the instrument serving the song: verses, choruses, bridges, variations, richer voicings, and complementary parts that enhance the track's dynamics.
The library is based on an August Hoffman model 1001 with six octaves, nicknamed "Bambino". Thanks to its size and design, it delivers a tighter, more focused sound with clarity that works especially well in modern arrangements. The instrument was recorded at OAL Studios (Sweden) to preserve its identity and nuances.
EKX Small Upright Piano integrates into the EZkeys workflow and emphasizes composition: a MIDI library of piano phrases, an arranger with integrated timeline, and tools to develop an idea into a full song structure. The smart transposition feature facilitates handling complex chords and lets you quickly test different keys, progressions, or substitutions without breaking the natural feel of the playing.
To quickly move from creation to production, mixer presets are included. They allow you to shape the tone (more intimate, more defined, brighter, tighter) depending on the piano's role in the track: lead instrument, rhythmic accompaniment, chord doubling, or subtle texture behind a vocal. A basic music theory lesson is also provided to support learning and songwriting.
