Toontrack Death Metal EZX is a virtual drum expansion designed to produce current death metal tracks, from the fastest blast beats to heavy mid-tempos, without losing clarity. It is aimed at composers, guitarists, metal beatmakers, and sound engineers who want a ready-to-use drum kit capable of cutting through very dense guitars and complex arrangements. The goal is simple: to achieve a punchy, articulated, and "mix-ready" sound while maintaining a realistic playing feel to program fast, technical, and nuanced parts.
The pack offers 2 complete kits close in spirit but truly different in character, allowing you to vary colors depending on your track: aggressiveness, roundness, presence, projection in the high spectrum, or solidity in the low end. This dual approach covers a wide range of sub-genres, from old-school death metal updated for today's taste to technical death, brutal death, and ultra-tight modern productions.
Recorded at Sonic Ranch by Mark Lewis, the drum kit is tailored to integrate quickly into a heavy production: sharp transients, clear separation of elements, and a sonic signature that remains readable even at very high density. The result is designed to "cut through" walls of guitars while maintaining the precision essential for fast patterns (double bass, blasts, hi-hat variations, tom accents).
Sampling by Sean Reinert brings an essential organic dimension: the feel of the hit, control, coherence, and musicality that make the difference between a simply powerful drum kit and a truly credible one. For death metal, where speed can quickly make programming sound artificial, this approach helps maintain a natural response and clean articulation.
The library includes a collection of death metal-inspired MIDI grooves created by Dave McGraw. Ideal for starting an arrangement, testing pattern variations, building a verse/chorus/bridge structure, or simply saving time before customizing parts according to your guitar playing and tempo.
