Area 33 SDX brings together members of the original Drumkit From Hell team: Fredrik Thordendal, guitarist of Meshuggah, and Daniel Bergstrand, producer, engineer, and mixer (Behemoth, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir). This collaborative project of researching, engineering, and outsourcing their creation for a full-length metal SDX for Superior Drummer 3 resulted in an absolute monster weighing in at over 180 GB. The recording was carried out at Fredrik Thordendal's personal studio 33 in Stockholm, Sweden. This studio, built from scratch by Thordendal and Bergstrand, was designed to create the very embodiment of a drum room: spacious and reverberant, yet deeply precise, direct, and controlled.
With its seven contrasting and complementary kits, its vast selection of additional drums, and its virtual forest of cymbals, the Area 33 SDX offers a palette of raw and pure sounds, which you can refine, shape, and mold using Superior Drummer 3's limitless platform. What's more, these kits are unique: several feature up to eight toms, a double kick drum, and 15 cymbal slots. Furthermore, this SDX was recorded with exceptional microphones. Each kit was recorded using the classic close-mic technique, but with an additional set of microphones at each position. This way, each drum kit and cymbal are represented by a pair of mono and stereo microphones, allowing you to sculpt sounds beyond your wildest dreams. Finally, to capture the essence of the room and offer you even more options, 11 ambient microphones (seven of which are stereo) were recorded.
