Complete software
PPG Wave 3.V is a virtual instrument designed to recreate the unique aesthetic of wavetable synthesis: evolving timbres, organic digital textures, sharp harmonics, and spectral movements impossible to achieve with classic subtractive synthesis. It is aimed equally at electronic music producers (ambient, techno, synthwave, IDM, drum and bass) and film composers, thanks to its lively pads, cinematic drones, and hybrid sounds blending wavetables and sample playback.
Thanks to its 8-part Multi mode, you can build a complete arrangement while maintaining a characteristic PPG sound coherence. The different playing modes (poly, dual, quad, mono) and semitone offsets also allow quick creation of stacked chords, massive unisons, or thick melodic lines-perfect for modern hooks or retro textures.
At the heart of PPG Wave 3.V are two wavetable oscillators per voice to sculpt rich and changing timbres. Waldorf offers an authentic aliasing emulation of the PPG Wave 2.2, 2.3, and 2.V, or the option to disable aliasing for a cleaner sound. This approach lets you choose between a deliberately digital grain (ideal for cutting leads and crunchy basses) and a more hi-fi rendering for current productions.
The typical "alive" behavior is enhanced by modulation granularity emulation (activatable via True PPG) and by 8 adjustable cutoff and resonance variations, designed to simulate slight analog imprecision and avoid a too static sound.
PPG Wave 3.V is not limited to wavetables: it integrates sample playback with bit depths ranging from 8 bit and 12 bit up to 32 bit. This allows you to switch from a delightfully "vintage digital" sound to detailed modern sources. Sample loading is simple, via drag-and-drop or a dialog box, and multisample playback becomes particularly effective when using the 8-part Multimode.
The signal can be shaped with a 12 dB or 24 dB low-pass filter, including an authentic emulation of the PPG Wave 2.2/2.3 filter. An overdrive placed after the filter adds bite and density, useful for making a bass stand out in the mix or giving presence to a pad. To animate your sounds, you have 1 LFO and 3 envelopes, with a Fine Modulation option for more precise adjustments when seeking a very fine sweet spot (for example on wavetable scanning or delicate resonance).
Each part can be configured in Poly, Dual, Quad, or Mono (8 voices), with 8 semitone offsets to generate chords, stacks, or instant harmonizations. The arpeggiator offers Up, Down, Alternate, and Cascade (PPG special) modes, ideal for creating dynamic and retro sequences, from Berlin School to modern patterns.
PPG Wave 3.V includes a complete effects chain to finalize the sound without multiplying plug-ins: 4-band EQ, overdrive with multiple types, phaser up to 12 stages, chorus up to 6 stages, flanger, stereo delay, and reverb. With the 8 stereo outputs, you can also route each part to separate tracks in your DAW for dedicated processing (parallel compression, spatialization, creative automation).
To go beyond presets, PPG Wave 3.V offers user wavetable editing as well as wavetable import. The bank benefits from new factory wavetables (including over 100 created by Wolfgang Palm), while the Mutator (patch randomizer) speeds up exploration: perfect for generating variations, finding an inspiring starting point, or designing experimental FX and textures. The resizable interface and automation (host and MIDI controllers) facilitate integration in production and live performance.
