Waldorf Streichfett Plug-In is a virtual instrument designed to recreate the unmistakable character of the "String Machines" that marked pop, rock, and film soundtracks of the 70s and 80s. Whereas a modern polyphonic synth can become very analytical, Streichfett aims for the opposite: homogeneous, thick, and floating sounds capable of filling the mix quickly without spending hours browsing preset lists. It excels at cinematic pads, retro textures, analog strings, accompaniment layers, and naturally moving "ensemble" atmospheres.
Whether you produce synthwave, pop, ambient, electronica, or film music, Streichfett delivers that typical "wall of sound": a dense, wide, and enveloping timbre that easily sits behind vocals, guitar, or leads while remaining alive thanks to modulations and built-in effects.
The heart of Streichfett relies on two complementary sections. The Strings section is fully polyphonic and designed to generate rich pads with the mass and continuity feel typical of vintage string keyboards. In parallel, the Solo section offers 8-voice polyphony: ideal for adding attack, a slightly percussive brightness, or a contrasting color above the strings. Thanks to the Layer/Split modes, you can stack both sections or distribute them across the keyboard (low split, layer, high split) for a more "performance" style play.
Rather than locking you into a single character, Streichfett allows smooth transitions between multiple registers. On the Strings side, morphing covers notably Violin, Viola, Cello, but also colors like Brass, Organ, Choir, and more, to go from classic string pads to bolder hybrid textures. On the Solo side, you continuously move between Bass, E-Piano, Clavi, Synth, and Pluto to create layers that shimmer, snap slightly, or thicken the low-mid range. The result is not a "realistic" imitation but a sound signature inspired by vintage machines: expressive, musical, and perfect in the mix.
The "string machine" sound owes much of its magic to the Ensemble Effect, which widens and animates the Strings section to give the impression of a moving instrumental choir. Streichfett goes further with the Animate Effect, capable of modulating the string registration to achieve spectacular morphings and natural evolutions over time without complex automation.
To finalize the grain, an integrated effects section offers an adjustable Phaser and a Reverb, perfect for moving from a tight vintage pad to a wide cinematic layer. On the Solo section, a dedicated Tremolo adds pulse and relief, very useful for simple patterns, ostinatos, or doubles that need to breathe.
Streichfett is designed as much for "playing" as for producing. It supports Poly Aftertouch and Channel Aftertouch, as well as sustain pedal and modulation wheel. You can choose between velocity-sensitive or fixed velocity behavior, adjust tuning and transposition, and enjoy simple control over essential parameters (attack and release perceived via Crescendo/Release, balance between sections, etc.).
The interface remains intentionally straightforward: dedicated knobs and buttons, immediate access to sound shaping parameters, and a "machine" logic that encourages quick decisions. The display is continuously resizable to stay comfortable on a laptop screen as well as on a high-definition monitor. To quickly recall your sounds, Streichfett offers 16 programmable presets spread across 2 memory banks (A and B), with 8 slots per bank.
