The latest addition to Roland's high-end range, the FANTOM EX continues the spirit of modern FANTOMs with an even more "all-in-one" approach: sound design, composition, and live performance all in one creative keyboard. It brings together generations of Roland technologies and puts them at the service of an immediate workflow, featuring a massive internal library and expansions designed to revisit vintage tones or explore decidedly contemporary textures.
The Roland FANTOM 6 EX is aimed at advanced and professional keyboardists, producers, film composers, and sound designers who want a central instrument both in the studio and on stage. It excels in electro, techno, ambient, synthwave, pop, funk, RnB, and film scoring, thanks to its detailed pianos, expressive organs, iconic synths, and hybrid textures. In live settings, its performance-oriented ergonomics, pads, and front-panel controls facilitate smooth transitions, splits, and layering without breaking creative momentum.
Designed as an evolving synthesis platform, the FANTOM 6 EX combines multiple Roland sound generators: ACB for circuit modeling of iconic analog instruments, ZEN-Core for acoustic, electronic, and hybrid sounds, V-Piano and SuperNATURAL for rich and nuanced pianos, and Virtual ToneWheel for characterful organs inspired by the VK series. The onboard library exceeds 7,000 sounds, including ACB Extensions for JUPITER-8, SH-101, and JX-3P, as well as modeling Extensions featuring n/zyme and several Roland classics.
Production is at the heart of the instrument: professional clip-based sequencing, step TR-REC sequencing, Piano Roll editing, and arrangement tools to build complex compositions. Sampling goes further with One Shot playback, key-range assignment, and multi-sampling capabilities, supporting up to 352 layered samples per sound. On the effects side, the library is extensive, including studio-quality Shimmer Reverb and Modulation Reverb, an enhanced Master FX processor (with presets and dedicated interfaces for Mastering Comp and Mastering EQ), and a 32-band stereo vocoder. Connectivity is designed for hub functionality: multichannel audio, MIDI, two CV/Gate outputs for modular control, and USB with a 16x3 audio/MIDI interface, plus dedicated control modes for major production software.
