Mr. Gresham, a Professor of Trumpet at Northern Kentucky University for over three decades before retiring in 2009, has fashioned melodious etudes based on the best-known plainchants drawn from the Liber Usualis. The use of these free flowing modal melodies as the basis for etudes that teach development of beautiful sound and the legato style of playing is inspired. Each etude has its own character and mastering them will give a student a great opportunity to improve playing technique, while enjoying the unusual modal flavor of the material.
