All fans of Jazz-style basses know that pickups made in the 1970s have a very different sound from those used in the 1960s. The pickups from the 1970s have a brighter, more "piercing" sound, which makes them perfect for slap, funk, and R&B. They are also suitable for rock styles. A range spanning from Geddy Lee's rock to Marcus Miller's Jazz/Funk perfectly illustrates the possibilities of these pickups. The windings and materials used varied greatly throughout the 1970s. We therefore used several pickups from different years as sound models. After many listening sessions and prototypes, we succeeded in reproducing the bright and deep sounds of 1970s Jazz bass pickups.
