The Légère reeds are made from polypropylene. This non-toxic material has been approved for use in applications involving direct contact with food, making these reeds completely safe to use. "Légère" has adopted a special process in the treatment of their polymer so that the molecules of the material align to precisely match the stiffness and density closest to that of a traditional moistened cane reed. Légère does not add fiberglass or any other chemicals. Some characteristics of this material: - It does not need to be pre-conditioned before playing. - It does not absorb water. - It is entirely non-toxic. - It can be disinfected. - It is extremely durable over time. Of course, the most important aspect of these reeds is the sound. Even with a very refined ear, you would not be able to distinguish a traditional reed from a Légère synthetic reed on the stage of a major Philharmonic Orchestra.
