Description

Essential Information About the Lacerate Boost Pedal

  • Two boosts in one mini pedal: Clean mode for a transparent clean boost, Crank mode for a warmer, more harmonic boost.
  • High gain reserve: up to +35 dB to make riffs and solos stand out, even in a dense mix.
  • "Amp-like" touch: analog circuit with 2-stage FET designed to emulate the response and musicality of a tube amplifier.
  • Suitable for crowded pedalboards: choice of true bypass or buffer at startup, convenient to limit signal loss.

A Modern Boost with a "Preamp" Spirit

The boost is one of the most essential effects on a pedalboard: it can serve as a simple volume increase, a tool to push an amp, or a "preamp" to thicken the tone. The Lacerate Boost clearly fits into this modern approach, relying on an analog FET transistor circuit, known for its behavior close to a tube amplification stage. While some boosts remain very tame, it embraces a wide range of level increase and a real coloration option, covering both the role of a clean boost and that of a booster that adds character.

For Whom and Which Styles?

The Lacerate Boost is aimed at guitarists who want a simple, quick, and effective solution to gain presence without getting lost in settings. In Clean mode, it is perfect for styles where intact dynamics and clear sound are sought: funk, pop, country, blues, classic rock, or to enhance a slightly crunchy clean tone. In Crank mode, it becomes an excellent ally to thicken a rock rhythm, make a lead sing, or add warm saturation that responds to touch.

In live situations, it helps to cut through the mix with a truly ample boost. In studio, it serves as a gain-staging tool: pushing a preamp, driving an overdrive harder, or simply bringing life back to a long effects chain. It also works very well with single-coil or humbucker pickups, and its headroom reserve allows maintaining good definition, even with high-output guitars.

Features and Ergonomics: Simple but Very Musical

The philosophy is clear: a single Volume control to precisely dose the amount of boost, and a footswitch that provides access to two personalities. The Clean mode aims for the most transparent volume boost possible, ideal for raising the level without altering the tonal balance. The Crank mode offers a livelier gain increase, with a sensation of saturation and harmonics reminiscent of a pushed amp, useful for thickening and warming the signal.

The mode switch is designed for the stage: just hold the footswitch for more than one second to switch from Clean to Crank. Another strong point: an internal converter raises the operating voltage from 9V to 18V to improve dynamics and provide more headroom. The result: better attack response, tighter bass, and a sound that breathes even when pushing the level.

Finally, the bypass management adapts to your chain. You can choose a true bypass mode to preserve the signal path when the effect is off, or activate a buffer if your pedalboard has many pedals and long cable runs. The selection is made at startup (by holding the footswitch during power-on), with an LED color indication: red for true bypass, green for buffer.

Sound

In Clean mode, the Lacerate Boost behaves like a modern clean boost: it highlights presence and definition without trying to "repaint" your tone. This is the mode to favor for louder solos, standout arpeggios, or to drive an amp input more firmly while keeping the character of the guitar and pickups. The headroom sensation brought by the internal conversion contributes to more comfortable dynamics and a less compressed sound, especially when playing with nuance.

In Crank mode, it becomes a more expressive boost: the signal enriches, harmonics appear more easily, and the touch becomes more "elastic." Placed before an overdrive or distortion, it can tighten the attack and increase saturation for singing leads. Placed after your saturations, it serves more as a volume boost to cut through the band, with extra body if you choose Crank mode. In both cases, the pedal remains easy to dial in: you quickly find the sweet spot where the sound cuts through without unnecessary harshness.

Use
Absolutely awesome effect pedal! I tested it on a jcm900 and a vox ac15. If the idea is to boost a clean sound, the result is very convincing... if it's to boost amp saturation... directly it adds gain and a bit of level, but in the effects loop it has a formidable result!!! So for my marshall it's perfect... for my Vox it's a bit less effective but... I want to say, it's like all boost pedals directly... Using the neutral boost or with added gain is very nice... I am extremely convinced, it's better than 3/4 of the boosts I've tried and very often for half or even a third of the price!
