The Track One 2960 retains the DNA that made the Track One successful: a mono console channel strip designed for both studio and live use, offering excellent value and a results-oriented approach. This version benefits from a facelift to visually harmonize with other SPL channel strips in the same family (Frontliner, Channel One, Track One), while maintaining the proven technical performance of the model renowned in demanding environments.
The SPL Track One 2960 is aimed at sound engineers, production studios, radio control rooms, video sets, podcasters, and advanced home studio users who want a complete and coherent recording chain to quickly capture vocals and instruments, with a level of control suited to real-world situations (variations in mic distance, unpredictable dynamics, aggressive articulation). It is ideal for direct recording before conversion (audio interface), but also as a dedicated channel strip in a larger setup.
The Track One's philosophy is based on automatic control of certain parameters to simplify settings and ensure consistent quality. Specifically, the de-esser and compressor sections continuously adjust key parameters based on the signal: you save time, reduce setting errors, and maintain a discreet and professional sonic signature.
The Track One includes two distinct preamp stages: a microphone path with 48 V phantom power and a dedicated instrument path. The goal is to achieve a neutral, open sound with a low noise floor, while remaining easy to use daily. A high-pass filter is available on both inputs to clean up the low end (plosives, vibrations, rumble) right at the source.
The de-esser effectively and naturally reduces sibilance. Its automatic threshold adjustment maintains consistent processing, even when the distance between the source and microphone varies (talk, voice-over, interview, live). Controls are intentionally minimal: you directly adjust the sibilance reduction without getting lost in complex settings.
The compressor/limiter section is designed to combine low noise and low distortion with musical behavior. As with the de-esser, SPL focuses on efficiency: a single control allows quick adjustments while maintaining a clean result, whether stabilizing a vocal, grounding a bass, or taming transients. For stereo applications, it is possible to link the compressors of two Track One units and control them centrally.
The Track One features a 3-band equalizer developed for vocals and instruments, with a frequency range designed for quick shaping: cleaning lows, presence in the upper midrange, and openness in the extreme highs thanks to the Air band. This approach favors fast corrections during recording without altering the source.
The output potentiometer allows you to precisely adjust the gain to feed the next device (converter, console, recorder, external processor). Balanced XLR and jack outputs facilitate integration in studios and control rooms, while the parallel jack input provides a practical connection solution depending on your setup.
