With its direct handling and 8-voice polyphony, the COBALT 8 suits both musicians already comfortable with synthesis and keyboardists seeking an inspiring instrument to progress. It excels in electro, techno, synthwave, pop, ambient, or sound design, whether in studio (fine programming, memory slots, effects) or live (dedicated controls, aftertouch, modulation joystick).
The Modal COBALT 8 is based on virtual analogue subtractive synthesis designed to surpass historical limitations: 8 truly polyphonic voices, up to 64 high-resolution oscillators, and 2 independent oscillator groups offering up to 4 oscillators each. The 34 algorithms (sync, ring modulation, morphable waveforms, and more) provide a wide palette, from classic "analog" grain to more contemporary textures.
The core of the sound character comes from the morphable 4-pole Ladder filter (Cutoff, Res, Morph) with 4 switchable configurations, complemented by 3 independent envelope generators for precise modulation. To quickly create patterns, you have a step sequencer and an arpeggiator, plus 3 independent DSP effect engines (chorus, delays, reverb, phaser, rotary...) to finalize the sound without external processing. The interface remains performance-focused: 29 endless encoders, 24 buttons, a 4-axis lockable joystick, and a readable OLED screen.
