The big sound that haunts the dreams of many guitarists for four decades has been captured and boxed by the geniuses of the MXR team. With the 5150, Van Halen's Brown Sound is finally within footswitch range!
Sustainable revolution. When the album "Van Halen" eponymous group released in 1978, the world of music takes a monumental slap that nobody was waiting. Overnight, the guitarists are all to customize their Strat, to work the tapping and to try to approach the huge sound of Eddie Van Halen on this opus, a sound so colossal and unique that it was given a name: the Brown Sound.
The voice of his master. This Brown Sound was, originally, the result of a Marshall head fed through a Variac. This small tool was used to send a lower voltage to the head compared to the electric current of a socket, so as to obtain a more spongy and fat. Despite many attempts, the MXR EVH 5150 Overdrive is the first saturation pedal that Eddie has agreed to lend his name to. This is not a slight endorsement when you know how much the man is demanding with his stuff, to the point of systematically tinkering himself with most of the products he uses.
Unchained. The MXR EVH 5150 Overdrive was designed thanks to the close collaboration of Eddie Van Halen with Jorge Tripps. The founder of Way Huge and engineer for MXR, is a big fan of the band and therefore wanted to put himself at the service of the sound of his idol. But he did not stop at the original Brown Sound. The sound of the band has evolved over time to a more compressed and saturated rendering, and this pedal can achieve the big metal distortion. Then you have to adjust the three-band EQ to adapt the rendering to your guitar and amp. To complete the picture, a boost adds gain and a noise gate to the circuit derived from the famous Smart Gate MXR, eliminates any background noise even on the wildest settings.
The EVH5150 Overdrive is the result of a close collaboration between the MXR team and Eddie Van Halen. This overdrive delivers a huge panel of sounds typed tube amp, a crunchy light and creamy saturations overpowering. Its hand-tuned multi-stage MOSFET technology and its many settings provide maximum versatility. The Boost switch offers additional gain and compression, and the Gate setting subtly eliminates the high-gain interference that can occur.
Find the classic high gain sound of Eddie's first albums but also the more modern and articulate sounds he likes today.
