Designed based on the chorus Eddie Van Halen used to widen his clean guitars and add depth to arpeggios, the EVH 5150 Chorus retains the "early 80s" aesthetic while adding current flexibility options. It continues the line of EVH effects developed with MXR/Dunlop, delivering that typical spaciousness and definition without sacrificing ease of use.
Ideal for intermediate to professional guitarists, this chorus excels in hard rock, 80s rock, pop, new wave, funk, and metal ballads. On stage, it provides a wide and stable image; in the studio, it enriches both clean layers and crunch leads. Paired with a 5150-type overdrive, it thickens saturated rhythms without muddying the mix and integrates easily into any pedalboard.
The front panel features three potentiometers: Volume (overall level), Tone (spectral balance), and Intensity (modulation depth). Two mini-switches, Input Level and Output Level, adjust the pad to suit different sources and maintain unity gain. An internal switch allows selection between true bypass and buffered bypass depending on your signal chain length. The jack connectivity supports mono use or stereo widening, depending on your routing.
The 5150 Chorus delivers a wide, silky analog modulation: crisp highs without harshness, clean lows, and a "liquid" movement that doesn't mask the attack. Its dynamics follow pick playing and respect the amp's character. On clean tones, it produces a broad, three-dimensional shimmer; with slight crunch, it thickens the sound without pumping. This is the EVH signature: spaciousness, clarity, and authority, perfect for highlighting arpeggios, atmospheric intros, or singing solos.
