Well known in all radio studios for the exceptional definition it provides to vocal recordings, the SM7B is a cardioid dynamic microphone specially designed for broadcast and presenters, but it is equally effective for capturing instruments such as brass, or for miking guitar and bass amps.
A Shielding That Withstands Everything!
Weighing a comfortable 765 g, the SM7B is fully protected by a sturdy metal housing, a shielding that immunizes it against magnetic radiation generated by mobile phones, speakers, or neon lights. This neutralizes interference and unwanted noise. Additionally, it benefits from internal pneumatic isolation that almost completely reduces mechanical handling noise. It comes with a classic first windscreen, and a second one, called the A7WS, specially designed for close miking, which drastically reduces breathing noises, even for low-volume voices.
The Warmth of FM!
Being dynamic in design, the SM7B features a large capsule that provides high sensitivity. This explains why it perfectly reproduces the characteristic atmosphere of FM vocal recordings, warm and dynamic, with beautiful precise lows. For easy placement, it is mounted on a sturdy swivel mount with a standard microphone stand adapter, ensuring rock-solid adjustment stability.
Uncompromising Features.
With a wide frequency response curve from 50 Hz to 16,000 Hz, as well as excellent dynamic uniformity across the spectrum, the SM7B handles high sound pressure levels, making it very effective for miking loud instruments. It has a sensitivity of -59 dBV/Pa. Its very pronounced cardioid directivity further enhances the purity of recordings, ensures ideal focus, and a wealth of detail thanks to effective off-axis sound rejection. Finally, it features a bass roll-off and midrange boost, switchable by a toggle: absolutely essential for vocals!
Note: for optimal use, the SM7B requires a preamp providing at least 60 dB of Gain.
