With the Hook-Drum & Loop Mini, NUX condenses the essentials of a looper + drum machine duo into a mini format designed for modern pedalboards. The approach is deliberately straightforward: few controls, but well-chosen functions to record an idea, work on a riff, or build a complete loop without getting lost in menus. It fits within the Mini Core series philosophy: maximum creativity in minimal space, ideal for lightweight setups and mobile musicians.
This pedal targets both beginner guitarists who want to improve with a "musical" metronome and experienced musicians looking for a quick tool to test arrangements or work on improvisation. The 11 rhythm styles cover various uses: rock, blues, pop, funk, and broadly anything that requires an immediate rhythmic foundation.
In the studio, it serves to capture an idea in seconds. Live, it can be a backup to launch a basic loop or an intro. On a pedalboard, it naturally sits at the end of the chain to record the full sound (effects included) and rehearse under real conditions.
The Hook-Drum & Loop Mini combines two clearly defined sections: the looper and the drum machine. Levels are separated with two dedicated knobs (Loop Level and Drum Level), allowing you to keep the loop clearly audible without overpowering the rhythm, or conversely bring the drums forward to work on precision.
The looper offers up to 6 minutes of recording and unlimited overdubs. Two recording modes are available: Normal or Automatic (signal detection), handy for triggering recording exactly when you start playing. On the rhythm side, the Style selector gives access to 11 musical styles, and loop playback remains independent from the drum machine playback for more flexible control.
The footswitch manages the looper functions, while the switch on top of the pedal is used to start/stop the rhythm and adjust the tempo via Smart Tape Tempo. To keep things smooth, the pedal can also automatically detect the tempo from the recorded loop.
Finally, the connectivity meets current needs: a mini-jack headphone output for silent practice (with an alternate headphone volume control option), and a USB-C port to import/export your loops via the "Hook" app in WAV 44.1 kHz / 24 bit mono format, as well as for firmware updates.
The Hook-Drum & Loop Mini aims to be transparent and faithful to your tone: it captures your takes with 24 bit conversion and relies on DSP processing at 48 kHz / 32 bit to maintain good definition, whether you record a crisp clean, dynamic crunch, or heavy saturated sound. The response is designed to be immediate: you record, layer, and play without perceptible latency in typical compact looper use. Thanks to separate volumes, you can precisely adjust the balance between your loop and the rhythmic accompaniment, which helps both for working on timing and building more "musical" loops.
