A wand apart. When Mr. Vic Firth started his company, the drummers played chopsticks or brooms, or both, and he developed dozens of models to meet their needs. With the advent of fusion, the rods made a remarkable appearance because they offered another approach, a different sound dimension, for use located between the pile, the tap or the slap of a broom, and the rebound offered by the wand. Soft enough on cymbals, they can withstand rimshots, without forcing too much, because the goal is precisely not to make too much noise.
A dozen references. Vic Firth has developed eight models, from 7 to 31 strands (nylon), four of which bear the signature of Steve Smith. With 16 strands neither too big nor too thin, the Rute offer the most versatile use, with a very musical result on the whole battery, and a solidity recognized by all the regulars of this model.
A handle and perfect strands. Made entirely of birch, including the handle, the Rute Vic Firth provide an impeccable hold in the hand. The thickness is suitable for all types of finger lengths and gives a real impression of holding a wand. This model has 16 strands and a sliding ring which, by squeezing more or less the pieces of wood, provides more or less density with each stroke. For a game on the cymbals, spread the strands by pulling the ring to the handle. And for a sharper backbeat on the snare, it is pushed towards the end. Solid, no more expensive than two pairs of chopsticks, they must have their place in all "stick bags".
