Lemoine MANTOVANI BRUNO - UN SOUFFLE - FLUTE, 4 PERCUSSIONS

Description

Composed with the support of Sacem as part of the centenary of the birth of André Jolivet, Un souffle pays tribute to the Suite en concert by this composer by adopting its instrumentation (a flute and four percussion instruments). A tribute by the ensemble, then, but also a musical homage, as the piece refers to the notion of ritual, so dear to Jolivet. Indeed, in the first part of the work, a haunting periodicity made of overlapping between the different instruments underpins the discourse. The rotational aspect of the discourse is then progressively put into perspective by the flute, which breaks away from this framework logic to introduce figures, first very pointillistic, then increasingly complex. It is the gradual emergence of these figures that will allow the music to shift towards a pronounced pulsation energy, itself generating imbalance when a process of shifting different layers appears. The work ends in a troubled contemplation, in a stillness disturbed by brief elements evoking the typical sound morphologies of electroacoustic work.
