Ingolf Turban (Additional indications and practical advice)
Published at the beginning of the year 1806, the "40 Etudes or Caprices" for Kreutzer's violin - today, there are 42 - are the result of his long years of activity at the Paris Conservatoire, and represent the collection most accomplished studies ever from his pen. Their systematic and comprehensive approach to the decisive techniques of high-level violin playing has made it an essential tool for any serious violin student (higher level). In the two centuries since then, many reprints followed the first Parisian edition by various publishers, often in the form of arrangements by soloists or famous professors. Only a few years after the first edition, Kreutzer published a total revision of his standard work, in which he transformed the order of presentation of the studies or made substantial changes to them. This is the second version of the collection that serves as the basis for our urtext edition, while also offering the variants in the very first edition. The violinist Ingolf Turban, a virtuoso and sought-after pedagogue, accompanied this edition by bringing him his permanent expertise, and providing it with modern indications, in order to create an optimal basis for the current teaching of the violin.
