Description

The Essentials to Know About the Behringer WASP DELUXE Synthesizer

  • Faithful tribute to the 1978 Wasp with an authentic reproduction of the original "Wasp Deluxe" circuits to recapture its unique character.
  • Monophonic analog synthesizer designed for acid basses, biting leads, and experimental textures.
  • Analog multimode filter (low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, notch) with resonance, ideal for sculpting highly expressive timbres.
  • Semi-modular/Eurorack format (70 HP) + modern MIDI and USB-MIDI connectivity for easy integration in both studio and live settings.

A Cult Classic Reinvented in "Deluxe" Version

Born in the late 1970s, the Wasp became known for its unconventional approach and instantly recognizable sonic character. The Behringer WASP DELUXE captures the spirit of the original model by relying on a meticulous reproduction of the "Wasp Deluxe" circuits, while offering more flexible use in a modern setup. The result: a compact, ultra-inspiring synth capable of shifting from a proudly vintage sound to more futuristic textures with disarming simplicity.

Who It's For and What It's For: From Creative Studio to Electronic Live Performance

The WASP DELUXE is aimed at beginners who want to explore analog synthesis without getting lost in menus, as well as experienced users looking for a module with strong character. Perfect for techno, electro, EBM, synthwave, ambient, or sound design, it excels in dynamic basslines, aggressive leads, and modulated effects. Thanks to its Eurorack format and audio input, it also becomes an excellent tool for experimentation with external sources and enriching a modular system.

Features and Innovations

The Behringer WASP DELUXE is a monophonic analog synthesizer based on an architecture faithful to the original, with an authentic analog VCF/VCA chain for an organic response. It features a dual digital oscillator offering sawtooth and pulse waveforms, with adjustable pulse width, as well as a noise source to thicken timbres or feed more abrasive textures.

Its analog multimode filter (low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, notch) opens a wide playground, from deep warmth to sharp sweeps, with expressive resonance. Modulation is provided by a 6-waveform LFO to animate pitch and filter, complemented by two analog envelopes dedicated to the VCF and VCA, ideal for percussive attacks and more evolving movements.

On the integration side, the 3.5 mm audio input allows passing an external source through the processing section. The WASP DELUXE can also be used as a full Eurorack synth (70 HP) and offers a 16-voice Poly Chain function (up to 16 units) to stack multiple machines and create a polyphonic ensemble. Finally, MIDI and USB-MIDI connectivity facilitate control via sequencer, controller, or DAW, both in studio and on stage.

Received quickly with Woodbrass and Chronopost. I didn't have the wow effect as if I were expecting a Moog sub 37, not the same excitement (not the same price either) when waiting for a Behringer synth module but I confirm that the SOUND is there. Easy to program, I have already created some patches. I take away one star because the selector buttons/potentiometers were completely "stuck as if soldered". I had to remove their caps and give a small quarter turn with a pliers to unlock them and put the caps back on. We will see over time the Behringer quality (which I did not know).
