MOOG SPECTRAVOX Spectravox, the new member of the Moog semi-modular family, is a revolutionary tool for sound sculpting. An analog spectral processor based on a 10-band filter bank, the Spectravox creates living drones and colorful tonal sweeps, adding a depth of resonance and psychedelic spectral movement to any external sound. Plug a microphone into the Spectravox, and it becomes a 10-band analog vocoder with innovative integrated modulation across all its filters. An exploration and expansion of vocoder topology and filter bank design, Spectravox is a highly flexible instrument and signal processor with a full patchbay for integration into studios of all sizes. Synth enthusiasts have delighted in playing with the sound spectrum since the introduction of the fixed filter bank Moog 907 in the 1960s, creating lush vowels and multicolored timbral animations with convenient control over the level of each frequency band of a sound. Unlike previous fixed filter banks, the individual filters of the Spectravox are no longer fixed and move together within the frequency space, enabling otherworldly voltage-controlled spectral animations and vibrant phaser-like sweeps. With 10 filters whose resonance can vary from smooth precision to shimmering chorus effects, the Spectravox reshapes the sounds you love into surprising new forms, bringing a new world of sonic possibilities to your studio. Spectravox is a fascinating standalone synthesizer sculptable thanks to its built-in sound source composed of a thick Moog analog oscillator and a white noise generator. With its combo XLR/jack program input, the Spectravox becomes a full 10-band vocoder with a secondary filter bank to analyze the spectral composition of incoming sounds. In VOCODER mode, its 10 analysis filters reproduce the timbral characteristics of any external sound onto any other sound you can imagine. Shape the Spectravoxs analog oscillator with the dynamics of your voice, or use a drum machine to animate guitar chords in a hypnotic percussive space. The Spectravox draws inspiration from the pioneering vocoder work of Bob Moog and Wendy Carlos in the late 1960s. This work was based on the original designs of Homer Dudley from the 1930s and was famously used in Stanley Kubricks film A Clockwork Orange (1972). Innovating beyond these early designs, the Spectravox uses 10 state-variable filters for its filter bank, all capable of being swept with its internal triangle wave LFO or external control voltage (CV). With the ability to emphasize vowel sounds using the Hiss and Buzz functions of the Moog 16 Channel Vocoder, the Spectravox is both a major step forward for analog filter banks and a loving exploration of vintage music technology history. Scramble your frequency spectrum and create wonderfully unpredictable textures using the patch points of each filter in the filter bank, with the included patch cables. Add analog warmth and subtle phasing to digital synthesizers and other sound sources. Integrate the Spectravox with other Moog semi-modular instruments or Eurorack modules via an extensive patchbay allowing control over nearly all parameters. Spectravox is an instrument that pushes the boundaries of the vocoder, inviting you to explore new creative ways to shape and sculpt sound.
