Description
Some pedals are as much a part of rock history as the Strat or the Marshall stack. Among these very rare classics still found at our feet, the Phase 90 MXR occupies a place of choice.
The original. Phase 90 did not inherit the code name M101 by chance: it is simply the first pedal marketed by the MXR brand since 1974. Collectors are tearing off vintage models, but it is still possible to find at the moment this reference in new version, always orange and more reliable than ever. A single button controls the speed, and there is always no need for anything else!
Phaser for everyone! At the time, the professional guitarists quickly equipped themselves with Phase 90 and it was then heard on all the albums of the rest of the decade, from Johnny Winter to Johnny Cash. Everyone appreciated the enveloping and musical softness of the M101, as well as its great simplicity of adjustment. At slow speed, the sound comes alive and spinning, while at high speed, we get closer to the hypnotic rendering of a Leslie cabin.
All Terrain. Since 1978, Eddie Van Halen has shown how Phase 90 was able to smooth the sound and give it a little thick boost to switch from rhythm to solo. More recently, bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Mars Volta have proven that the phaser can still be rediscovered in multiple ways, always with an MXR M101. No doubt that we will still plug into this little orange box in fifty years.
