Description

The Essentials to Know About the Yamaha MX61 Synthesizer

  • AWM2 Engine derived from the MOTIF XS waveforms for over 1,000 ready-to-play sounds.
  • 61-key keyboard compact, 128-note polyphony, and 16-part multitimbrality for full arrangements.
  • Built-in USB audio/MIDI interface, software control, and Cubase AI included for immediate production.
  • VCM effects, arpeggiator, Split/Layer functions, and comprehensive connectivity for stage and studio.

A Direct Heir to the MOTIF Universe, in an Ultra-Portable Format

The MX61 carries the sound DNA of the MOTIF XS series, a studio reference, condensed into a lightweight and robust chassis. Positioned as a versatile digital synthesizer, it offers the reliability of a "real keyboard" and the flexibility of a modern controller, in a particularly accessible size and price range.

For Mobile Musicians, Producers, and Versatile Keyboardists

Whether you are a motivated beginner, beatmaker, or experienced keyboardist, the MX61 covers electro, pop, synthwave, hip-hop, ambient, or scoring. Its compactness makes it an ideal ally for rehearsals, on stage, or in the home studio, with professional-quality sounds and a smooth workflow with your DAW.

Features and Innovations

Based on AWM2 synthesis (sample playback with filters and envelopes), the MX61 delivers a rich sonic palette, ranging from pianos and strings to electronic leads and basses. Its 128-note polyphony and 16-part multitimbrality allow for controlling complex arrangements, while the arpeggiator and Split/Layer functions speed up creation. The VCM effects add character by modeling the behavior of analog circuits. Thanks to the USB audio/MIDI interface (also compatible with iOS), the keyboard integrates as an audio interface and control surface for your virtual instruments. The LCD screen facilitates navigation through over 1,000 sounds, and the inclusion of Steinberg Cubase AI provides a complete production environment right out of the box.

What a surprise! The synth is very light and having never touched the keyboard before, I thought the feel would be mediocre given the price and the lightness of the whole (crazy lightness!). The Roland Juno is the best for me at this level and the Korg Kross sticks to the fingers and its keyboard is horrible but honestly on the Yamaha, it's rather very good and we're at the level of Roland. The sounds are magnificent and I am amazed by their quality. With Cubase included, it's great. The screen is small and makes configuration difficult without using a computer, but that's normal given the price. The more expensive it is, the bigger the screen. This synth is simply top-notch, value for money. I have always bought very good quality arranger keyboards and the mx61 has nothing to be ashamed of. The reading of Midi files is impressive in quality and beauty when pure sounds, other than GM, are used. There are quite few videos on Youtube, other than demos that all look alike with piano sound tests for ages... which is useless since all keyboards are at the same level. So, I wasn't sure if I was making a mistake. Certainly, Korg and Roland in the same price range certainly have strong points too but in any case the MX is superb. Pure happiness, I did not expect that.... (Show more)

Piano with excellent sounds. The touch is average. Note that the splitting of the instrument is quite simplistic and very little configurable. Integration with CUBASE is impeccable. It perfectly serves as a second stage keyboard. I recommend it without hesitation. Yamaha = SAFE VALUE!!!

Average keyboard feel however it does well what is expected of it, especially as a master keyboard for production for example.
