Korg started with one idea in mind: to use the latest technologies to create the most advanced electronic musical instruments and give musicians access to the very best. Since the company was founded in 1963, this commitment has remained unchanged. Over the years, Korg has built a reputation as a leader in technology, ease of use, and sound quality.
The story begins in the early 1960s: Tsutomo Katoh, the manager of a nightclub, observed a musician on stage, accompanied only by a simple drum machine. After discussing the instrument’s limitations, they became convinced that they could drastically improve these products. In the months that followed, the team developed the first Korg product – the legendary Donca Matic. Tsutomo Katoh would remain the president and driving force behind Korg until his passing in March 2011.
As a company, Korg has a deeply rooted legacy of innovation. Korg is responsible for the first electronic tuner, the integration of a keyboard and vocoder in the VC-10, the introduction of a new family of instruments with the Electribe and Kaoss, pushing boundaries with the Wavedrum, and creating the "workstation" category with the M1 – still the best-selling workstation in history. This pioneering spirit continues today with products such as the KROSS, the Volca series, and many more.
Professionals, amateurs, and music students alike have made Korg a true reference. The future is yet to be written, but the past is already legendary!
