Description

The essentials to know about the BOSS GX-1B bass multi-effects

  • A true bass rig in a gig bag: AIRD modeling, 16 bass amps, WAV-format cabinet IR support, and over 130 effects covering everything from clean direct sound to modern drive.
  • Quick creation, immediate control: color screen, hexagonal effect knobs, 3 footswitches, and expression pedal with toe switch, all assignable to control your scenes with a single gesture.
  • Perfect for playing, recording, rehearsing: Bluetooth audio/MIDI for jamming, USB-C for audio to computer, and deep editing via the BOSS ecosystem.
  • Nomadic without compromise: powered by 4 AA batteries, AC adapter or USB, compact format and rugged chassis designed for practice and stage.

GX-1B: the new portable generation in the lineage of the GT-1B

Designed as the modern successor to the GT-1B, the GX-1B carries forward BOSS's "ready to play anywhere" DNA, adding a more direct interface and a current processing platform. The AIRD technology stands out by offering a more organic playing feel than a simple amp simulation: the attack, low-end behavior, and dynamics respond naturally, helping you find amp landmarks even when using headphones or DI. In the lineup, it targets bassists who want a complete, compact, and quick-to-grasp multi-effects unit without sacrificing studio-quality audio.

A multi-effects for mobile bassists: home, rehearsals, studio, live

The BOSS GX-1B aims wide: it suits both beginner bassists who want to explore "pro" sounds without getting lost in menus, and seasoned musicians needing an ultra-practical pedalboard for gigs, sessions, and last-minute plans. At home, it becomes a work companion thanks to practice features (passage looping, speed variations, metronome, rhythms) and headphone output. In the studio, USB-C simplifies direct recording, and adding cabinet IRs allows refining realism and mix integration. On stage, the ergonomics (switches, expression pedal, assignments) enable clean and fast changes, from punchy funk to muscular rock, modern pop to precise metal, up to more ambient/downtempo textures.

Features and workflow: from idea to preset without friction

The GX-1B is designed to build sounds quickly without breaking inspiration. The hexagonal effect knobs provide immediate access to major categories (compression, overdrive/distortion, amp/cab, modulations, delays, reverbs, etc.) and allow toggling a block on/off or entering editing depending on your workflow. The Gear Suite function speeds up finding musical "starting points": select an amp or effect, then browse pre-optimized settings you can personalize and save. On the chain side, you can stack up to 8 simultaneous effect blocks (with built-in volume pedal and noise reduction), organize your memories, and prepare full sets using Livesets. For control, the 3 footswitches and expression pedal (with toe switch) assign to classic functions (volume, wah, on/off, tap tempo) as well as advanced actions (parameter morphing, bank changes, per-song scenes). A dedicated input also allows adding external controllers, and wireless control is possible via compatible accessories.

Sound character

The GX-1B's character emphasizes what bassists primarily expect: a firm low end, a clear attack, and dynamics that remain stable when stacking effects. Clean sounds retain definition for fingerstyle, pick, or slap playing, while saturations range from light "edge" grit to tighter drives useful for cutting through a dense mix. The 16 amp types cover warmer vintage tones and tighter modern voicings; combined with cabinet IR loading, they allow adjusting air, depth, and projection sensation, both for direct recording and front-of-house output. The 32-bit floating-point processing and 48 kHz sampling help preserve playing nuances, especially on intensity transitions and fast attacks.
