Born from a collaboration between the Fender Custom Shop and renowned studio guitarist Michael Landau, this 1963 Signature Stratocaster faithfully reproduces Landau’s personal instrument while featuring a unique aged finish. Known for his work on dozens of albums with artists such as Michael Jackson, Joni Mitchell, Pink Floyd and Miles Davis, Landau inspired a model designed for demanding musicians seeking vintage tone and professional feel.
The Strat is equipped with three hand-wound Custom Shop Fat ’50s pickups that deliver a vintage tone that is clear, punchy and warm. The 5-way selector combined with two tone controls allows for a wide range of sonic combinations—from crystalline twang to thicker, bluesy textures—while the vintage-style synchronized vibrato adds expressive flexibility and enhances sustain for melodic phrasing.
This model is aimed primarily at professional and advanced guitarists who perform both in studio and on stage. Based on Michael Landau’s reference instrument, it offers the tonal palette and reliability expected by high-level musicians, without sacrificing the versatility needed to navigate between rock, blues and fusion jazz.
The hand-selected lightweight alder body prioritizes comfort and balanced resonance. The maple neck with “Custom Oval C” profile, paired with a round-lam rosewood fretboard (Radius 7.25" / 184.1 mm), provides a smooth and natural playing feel. With 21 narrow jumbo frets and a small 60s-style headstock, the instrument blends retro aesthetics with modern ergonomics, all under a nitrocellulose Fiesta Red finish over a 3-Color Sunburst.
