Essential Information About the EBS MultiComp Blue Label Pedal

  • Analog Multiband Compressor for Bass: natural balance between playing dynamics and consistency, all along the neck.
  • Ultra-intuitive Controls (Comp, Gain, Sens): easy to "dial in" both in studio and live, hassle-free.
  • 3 Modes (Normal, MultiBand, TubeSim): from transparent control to warmer compression rich in harmonics.
  • Ready for Active Basses: Active/Passive switch and operation up to 18 V DC for more headroom.

An EBS Classic, Modernized in the "Blue Label" Version

The MultiComp is one of EBS's most popular pedals, adopted for years by bassists worldwide to stabilize levels, enhance attack, and maintain solid low-end in the mix. The Blue Label series retains the MultiComp's "plug and play" spirit while adding more refined control, notably through the Sensitivity control that allows adjusting the compression threshold according to your instrument and playing style.

For Which Bassist and Contexts?

The EBS MultiComp Blue Label is suitable both for beginners who want an immediately controlled sound and for experienced bassists seeking a musical "always on" compressor. It excels in funk/slap (tight lows, snapping highs), rock and metal (more stable attack, controlled sustain), as well as pop and studio work to smooth dynamics without altering the bass's character. Its pedal format easily integrates into a pedalboard, for both stage and recording.

Settings, Modes, and Operating Logic

The Comp, Gain, and Sens controls form a very effective trio: Sens adjusts sensitivity (threshold), Comp sets compression intensity, and Gain compensates (or boosts) output level. The 3-position selector offers Normal (single-band compression), MultiBand (bi-band, lows/highs compressed independently), and TubeSim to add a warmer feel. An internal potentiometer fine-tunes compression sensitivity between high and low frequencies, and an Active/Passive switch adapts the input level for basses with high output levels.

Sound Character

In Normal mode, the MultiComp Blue Label sounds clean, balanced, and natural: perfect for securing your dynamics without "pumping" effects. In MultiBand, the low end remains firm and clear while attacks and harmonics breathe more, an ideal solution to maintain definition without losing punch. The TubeSim mode adds warmth and slight harmonic enrichment, very pleasant for thickening a pick line or rounding fingerstyle playing. This effect is notably used by Jorn "Necrobutcher" Stubberud.
