Essential Information About the Solid State Logic UF8 DAW Controller

  • 8-channel surface with 100 mm motorized faders, color LCD screens, and console-grade encoders.
  • Simultaneous multi-DAW control (3 layers) and chaining up to 4 UF8 units for 32 faders and 172 shortcuts.

  • Professional ergonomics: 6-position adjustable stands, 19-inch rack mounting, metal chassis.

From SSL Console DNA to Your Studio

For over 40 years, SSL has shaped the sound of music, film, and broadcast studios. The UF8 condenses this heritage into a high-end USB surface that captures the ergonomics, fluidity, and "feel" of the brand's large consoles. Compared to previous generations, it integrates the SSL 360 software, dedicated plug-in control modes, and a modern chainable architecture.

Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?

Producers, mixers, sound designers, and post-production engineers will find in the UF8 a fast and reliable tactile control of tracks, plug-ins, sends, and automation. Its layer logic allows control of multiple DAWs in parallel and instant switching between production contexts, whether in the studio, at home, or in a mobile setup.

A Modern Workflow, Without Compromise

Expanded Control and Navigation

Each channel strip combines a touch-sensitive motorized fader, a high-definition LCD screen, and an endless encoder identical to those on AWS/Duality consoles. The knurled master encoder handles banking, timeline navigation, and precise jog wheel emulation for millimeter-accurate editing.

Advanced Integration and Shortcuts

The CHANNEL and PLUG-IN modes optimize access to sends and processing in Pro Tools. 43 assignable buttons (5 banks of 8 plus 3 quick access) control your macros, while a dedicated automation section and dual-function buttons streamline movement recording.

Scalable and Ergonomic

Up to 4 UF8 units can be chained via USB THRU to create a 32-channel surface while occupying only one USB port. The integrated stands offer 6 tilt angles for optimal comfort, and the format allows 19-inch rack mounting. Centralized configuration via SSL 360 for Mac and PC simplifies layer mapping and preferences.

A controller gem for DAW Visually, the design and manufacturing quality of the beast is top-notch, the Vpots are very well arranged, the faders are ultra-sensitive and responsive. The small LCD screen for each track is very practical, allowing a view of many control levels and signals. Then, installation and use can be a bit laborious at first, but once you understand the basic principles and commands, mixing with this machine is a delight. Everything is controllable, besides the SSL plug-ins, you can control any thanks to the knob and focus function, or via the Vpots or faders, and the plug-in parameters are displayed on the screens which are readable. Switching from one DAW to another is quick and efficient thanks to the soft keys which can also be assignable according to your choice. Having worked on the Presonus Faderport, and a bit on the SSL UF8, it is the Rolls Royce of workflow controllers. It will be complemented with its partner the UC1 by the end of the year. The only downside is the GLS carrier handling delivery, it almost was a disaster...... (Show more)

Very good material, very nice manufacturing, superb look... really classy. Cubase integration is good, but could be improved.. quite a few inactive functions.... too bad, I would have liked to program a more complete integration....
