Essential Information About the DOD BADDERMONKEY Pedal
- Three custom overdrive circuits (Behaved, Bad, Badder) to switch from subtle boost to powerful drive without changing pedals
- Barrel control with "360-degree" rotation to continuously blend two circuits, plus a Troop mode that activates all three in parallel
- EQ Mood with two bands (Grunt for bass, Screech for mids/highs) and True Bypass for preserved signal integrity
- Reversible StagePlate and compact aluminum housing, stage- and pedalboard-ready
The Bad Monkey Becomes "Badder": Heritage and Evolution
Born from the cult classic Bad Monkey, the BADDERMONKEY retains the warm midrange character inspired by Tube Screamer-style overdrives and takes it further. The "Bad" circuit recreates the original signature, while "Behaved" opens a more airy low-gain range and "Badder" pushes aggressiveness and harmonic richness. The goal: to offer the Bad Monkey DNA with modern versatility designed for today's rigs.
For Which Guitarists and Contexts?
Ideal for
rock, blues, fusion, and hard rock guitarists, it covers a full set: clean boost for verses, expressive crunch for riffs, and sustained drive for singing solos. In studio or live, it works well as an "always on" pedal to shape amp voicing or as a boost for an already saturated channel to tighten lows and define attack. Its extended response also allows
occasional use on bass to thicken the low end, adjusting Grunt to keep the mix clear.
Features Designed for Creativity
The BADDERMONKEY hosts
three independent overdrive paths selectable and
blended via the
Barrel. The
Troop mode runs all three in parallel for an organic wall of sound. A
three-position phase toggle switch lets you keep the Bad circuit in phase, invert it for fuzz-like frequency cancellation textures, or activate Troop. Controls remain immediate:
Bananas (gain),
Curiosity (level), and
Mood (2-band EQ). The
tri-color LED clearly indicates the selected mode, and
True Bypass ensures signal integrity on the pedalboard.
Sound
At low gain, the BADDERMONKEY acts as a
transparent boost that wakes up a tube amp and breathes life into the mids without scooping the lows. Pushing the drive yields a
biting, precise, and singing grain, perfect for sharp rhythms and sustained leads. Blending circuits provides a very lively
dynamic response with adjustable low/mid balance to cut through the mix without harshness. Out-of-phase modes add original
granular textures, useful for massive choruses or riffs with strong personality.
