Description

Apart from some references that show their age, few good pedals have tried the challenge of offering the big sound metal compact format. With the Fullbore, MXR is the ultimate tool of its kind.

The nobility of the metal.
Overdrive is a form of art in its own right, to the point that some brands have about a dozen of their catalog, while the metal distortion is often considered the poor relation of the gain pedals. Yet, not everything is compressed and caricatural brutality in this universe, and there is even a certain nobility in trying to achieve the ideal mixture of thickness, sharpness, reactivity to attack and holding serious . In the field, MXR signs a solid box with the M116 Fullbore Metal.

EQ is the key.
Much of the battle of metal sound is played in a very precise equalization. The mediums represent the nerve of war to achieve the desired personality to its distortion, to go from glam-metal to black metal via n-metal, power-metal or death-metal ( whether or not it has a symphonic tendency). The MXR M116 Fullbore Metal therefore integrates a three-band EQ with a semi-parametric medium (which one can adjust the range of mediums concerned, so), and a Scoop push button that drastically digs the midrange for a sound really huge.

Violence and silence ...
Of course, a distortion metal would be nothing without a copious amount of gain, and on that side the M116 does not disappoint, far from it! It has a sufficient reserve to go from a big rhythmic sound like vintage stack pushed into its limits to the ultrafluid grain of the most modern amps that multiply stacked preamp stages. That says huge gain says background noise, and MXR was very inspired by integrating a noise gate to Fullbore Metal. It is activated via a pusher on the front and is parametered via an internal trimpot. Casually, this is an option that exempts you from the purchase of an extra pedal!

The power of the ultimate riff will be yours with the new MXR FullBore Metal distortion. This compact and powerful pedal will let you unleash devastating contemporary metal sounds!
This Ultra High Gain pedal includes a noise gate to suppress noise related to high gain but also to add definition and precision to metal riffs.

- 3-band equalizer with adjustable midrange,
- Built-in Noise Gate switchable,
- 'Scoop' button functioning as a boost for high and low frequencies,

- Operates on 9V battery or with ECU ECB003E power adapter (not supplied).

Very good distortion pedal, complete, solid casing, nothing like a Behringer, delivered in less than 48h by woodbrass, slight drawback for changing the battery because you need a big good screwdriver and a lot of willpower... (good noise gate on it)

I give 5 stars for its craftsmanship, but as for the look, I didn't like the sound at all, honestly disappointed, I tried it for 10 minutes and put it back in its box, not for me, too bad

MXR does a good job as always, this pedal is relatively versatile, the Gate is effective and can be adjusted (but you have to disassemble the pedal for that)

The best metal distortion pedal. The previous one was the same and lasted more than 10 years. I haven't found better, I bought the same one again.

Good pedal, good finish, but not with just any guitar. Woodbrass top as usual!

Very specific sound. Do not hesitate to lower the gain and play with the EQ

Very good product (the noise gate does its job well). You have to like the grain of the very cold and sharp saturation. The sound depends on your amp! For me, impossible to use with my HK Tubemeister 18 head (guitar with EMG81), even with the pedal's highs turned all the way down, too shrill. So I returned it within 7 days. A big regret for me because in terms of tone, I haven't found better yet in this price range. I think on the clean channel of a Blackstar HT5R metal much + crunch, even with an equalizer, it should be usable. To test before buying

I don't know what to say, it's pretty solid, but it takes time to adjust to find the sound you want. A transistor amp can be done quickly, but with a tube amp, it's not the same. However, don't listen to the samples on the internet... to have an opinion, it's misleading, you don't have the same gear as them, so...

Good distortion. Sound is very heavy as can be seen on some videos on the net; it still remains too synthetic and shrill for my taste.
