The Death Metal legend
At its release in 1983, the HM-2 was one of the first "amp in a box" pedals, using an innovative BOSS circuit to recreate the sound of 1980s English stack amplifiers beloved by musicians in a rapidly growing Heavy Metal scene. Toward the end of its production period, many Swedish Death Metal bands adopted the HM-2 to generate their primary guitar sound. This very aggressive, mid-focused tone then became highly sought after by a new generation of musicians. The enormous influence and popularity of this pedal generated many requests for BOSS to bring it back. We are therefore proud to present the HM-2W to all these devoted fans worldwide.
Standard mode: the original HM-2 sound
When the HM-2W is in Standard mode, the sound and response of the original HM-2 are faithfully reproduced. We were also able to add some modern improvements without affecting the tone, notably reducing ground noise and increasing the maximum level by 3 dB. And thanks to the built-in premium Waza Craft buffer, the sound in Bypass mode is greatly enhanced. Turning all the knobs up delivers a
Swedish Death Metal tone, but you can also access a wide range of sounds for other styles, thanks to sensitive distortion and colorful controls.
Even more aggressive in Custom mode
The HM-2W’s Custom mode offers similar tonal characteristics to Standard mode, but with a bit more of everything. The Overdrive stage provides a bit more gain and more fundamental guitar tone for increased attack and bite. Additionally, the bass and treble characteristics have been adjusted to deliver more fullness and definition.
The return of the orange and black
In addition to the original HM-2 sound, we worked extensively to reproduce the famous orange and black appearance of the pedal, down to the position and size of the lettering on the enclosure. Each Waza Craft pedal features a mode switch offering more tonal options, and it has been moved to the top of the HM-2W to preserve the original layout of the HM-2’s controls.
Waza Craft: The art of superior sound
BOSS engineers have always been dedicated to pursuing the best guitar sounds, using all necessary technology, from vintage analog circuits to the most advanced DSPs. This passion is fully expressed in the Waza Craft series, which offers exceptional tones and touch response thanks to carefully selected and assembled analog components, with meticulous attention to every detail. In Japanese, "Waza" means both art and craftsmanship, and these special edition pedals are perfect representations of that. They embody the best of BOSS design and expertise.
