The Shure Beta 52a is an excellent kick drum microphone. It has become a major reference in professional sound reinforcement and I understand why. I use it to mic the kick drum in my band (pop-folk). I wanted a great sound for the kick drum because in my style it's what moves the audience. I am extremely satisfied with it. The sound is round, precise, and very punchy. You need to experiment a bit with the microphone position to get the desired sound but it's a pleasure and the results come quickly.
However, for the home studio, the microphone alone is not enough. It needs to be paired with a microphone (large diaphragm type) outside the kick drum to get a good representation of the low end. I place the Beta 52a rather inside the kick drum. This requires a bit more research.
In summary, I highly recommend it because it is very good quality. The finish is excellent and the weight of the microphone testifies to its robustness. A small reservation on the price because I find it a bit expensive nonetheless.... (Show more)

Excellent bass drum mic even if it may lack a bit of precision in the highs.
