This method is intended for young students (8 to 12 years old). It can be used for 18 months to 2 years. It consists of eight groups of four lessons. The fourth lesson of each group is always a review of the skills acquired in the previous three.
Students can start flute and music theory at the same time, with no prior study required.
There will be few tips regarding posture, breathing, hand position, etc. This method can only be used with the help of a teacher who will, from the very first lesson, convey their own technical and musical principles as they see fit – as its name indicates (Hodos: "path"), it is only a way – it is up to the students and their teachers to make the journey...
The entire method can be used in individual lessons but also within a group teaching framework. All duets, trios, and quartets can be played alone (or with the teacher's accompaniment). In any case, each part of the ensemble pieces can be practiced.
The popular songs used are often unknown to children. This is why the lyrics are included. They should be sung...
The exercises are deliberately very short. They are always related to the pieces they precede. It is not always necessary to work on all of them – too many exercises and pieces are planned for each lesson! In group teaching, it will be easy to distribute them. In any case, it will be useful to revisit lessons already worked on. Some elements can be used for short sight-reading exercises.
The students' imagination is frequently engaged in a very brief and simple way. For the authors, this is not a break, but a strong and foundational element of a flutist's musical and technical education.
